Lusaka, Zambia, Thursday, 03rd October 2024—The Honourable Minister of Communication and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia, His Excellency Mohamed Adan Moalim Ali, had the distinct honour of attending the esteemed 2024 Africa Digital Governments Summit, convened in Lusaka, Zambia. The Summit was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Mr. Hakainde Hichilema, President of the Republic of Zambia.
During the course of the summit, Minister Mohamed Adan Moalim Ali actively participated in a high-level panel discussion, where he eloquently articulated the remarkable strides the Federal Government of Somalia has made in the realm of digital transformation, telecommunications, and Information and Communication Technology (ICT). He emphasized that these advancements are paramount to ensuring that Somalia remains aligned with the rapid technological evolution that characterizes the global contemporary landscape.
Minister, Mohamed highlighted the Government of Somalia’s commitment to fostering a robust legal and regulatory framework to underpin technological advancement. He elaborated on the recent enactment of several key legislative instruments, including:
•The Data Protection Act
•The Establishment of the National Data Centre
•The Cybersecurity Act
•The Cybercrime Act
•The E-Government Strategy
•The E-Transaction Law
•The ICT Development Policy and Strategy
Furthermore, His Excellency expounded on the recent launch of the East Africa Digital Connectivity Project, a pivotal initiative poised to significantly enhance Somalia’s economic growth and strengthen its connectivity with neighbouring East African nations. He underscored Somalia’s readiness to attract and engage in international investments in the digital sector, thereby contributing to the country’s long-term development objectives.
In conclusion, the Minister extended his profound gratitude to Her Excellency Ambassador Hawa Hassan Mohamed, the Somali Ambassador to Zambia, who played an instrumental role in ensuring the warm reception of the Somali delegation and providing invaluable support throughout the Summit. His Excellency expressed his appreciation to the leadership and dedicated staff of the Somali Embassy in Zambia for their exemplary service and commitment.
