Rome, Italy, July 16, 2024. The Minister of Communications and Technology of Somalia, Mohamed Adam Moalim Ali, participated in the Italy-Africa Space Conference held in Rome. The conference, aimed at strengthening cooperation in space technology education and research, was launched by Antonio Tajani, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Italy.
The event was attended by Ministers of Communications from various African countries, the head of the Italian Space Agency (ASI), leaders of technology companies, and heads of African space agencies. The conference was organized by the Italian Space Agency and the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Minister Mohamed delivered a speech highlighting various aspects of the conference and welcomed the partnership, particularly the initiatives to promote the use of space technology in education, health, agriculture, water, and energy sectors. He emphasized the importance of space agency infrastructure and training, stating, “This opportunity is another success for us as we utilize space technology to improve essential services for the Somali community.”
The Italian-African Space Conference followed the Italian-African Summit held earlier in January, which was attended by 46 heads of government from Africa, officials from the Italian government, ministers, representatives from the African Union, the European Union, and the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations. The primary aim of these meetings is to strengthen the relationship between Italy and Africa.
