INAUGURATION OF THE NATIONAL POSTAL SERVICE REVIVAL AT ADEN ADDE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT LED BY MINISTER MOHAMED (soomaali).

Mogadishu, Somalia – 28 July 2025

Inauguration of Somalia’s national postal service revival was held at Aden Adde International Airport, officiated by the Minister of Communications and Technology, H.E. Mohamed Adan Moalim Somali. This historic occasion marks the restoration of a critical public service that had been dormant for nearly 36 years.

The ceremony was attended by high-level officials, including the Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, the Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Airport Manager, the Head of Airport Security, the Director of Customs, the Director of the Postal Department at the Ministry, and several staff from the Ministry of Communications and Technology.

In his opening remarks, the Director of the Postal Department welcomed the Minister and his delegation, highlighting the challenges overcome and the Ministry’s relentless efforts to reactivate the service. He confirmed that as of May 2025, the national postal service had resumed operations—beginning with sending and receiving mail.

Speeches followed from Hon. Mahmoud Abdiqadir (Jeego), Deputy Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation, Mr. Mohamed Said Abdullahi, Airport Manager, and Mr. Ahmed Macallin Hassan, Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority. All praised the leadership of the Ministry of Communications and Technology and underscored the importance of modernizing the postal system to align with global technological advancements, improve public services, and strengthen national governance.

Minister Somali then toured the postal office located within the airport premises. He was warmly received by the staff, who briefed him on operational procedures. He also visited the Customs Office, where he met with the Director to discuss inspection processes for incoming and outgoing goods.

In his closing statement, Minister Mohamed Somali remarked:

“This is a landmark day in the history of public service delivery in Somalia. The revival of the postal service is a direct result of our collective commitment to rebuilding key institutions. Our staff have received advanced training from international experts, while others were sent abroad to acquire specialized skills that reflect the latest innovations in postal systems.”

The Minister commended the dedication of national professionals and postal staff who worked tirelessly to make the revival possible. The Ministry reiterated its commitment to providing the Somali people with a fast, secure, modern, and efficient postal service.
