Minister Mohamed “Soomaali” Oversees Handover Ceremony for the New Director-General of the Data Protection Agency.

Mogadishu, Thursday, 5th December 2024

The Minister of Communications and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Adan Macallin (Soomaali), presided today over the handover ceremony of responsibilities between the outgoing Acting Director-General and the newly appointed Director-General of the Data Protection Agency (DPA).

The ceremony, held at the headquarters of the Agency, was attended by various dignitaries, including members of both Houses of Parliament, representatives from academia, banks, and the telecommunications sector.

In his remarks, Minister Mohamed “Soomaali” praised the former Director-General for his diligent service and commended the young professionals working at the Agency for their efforts in elevating its operational standards.

He urged the incoming Director-General to dedicate himself to safeguarding and strengthening the protection of Somali citizens’ data, emphasizing the critical role of the Agency as a point of recourse in instances of misuse of personal information.

“The Data Protection Agency plays a pivotal role in protecting individuals’ data rights and preventing violations of personal privacy. Furthermore, it enhances public trust in digital services by ensuring that personal data is managed transparently and in compliance with legal standards,” stated H.E. Mohamed “Soomaali.”

The Data Protection Agency, which operates under the Ministry of Communications and Technology, is committed to ensuring that companies and institutions adhere to best practices in data management. This contributes to mitigating risks of data breaches while fostering a modern, secure, and digital environment.
