Mogadishu, Sunday, 25 August 2024— The Minister of Communications and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Adam Moalim Ali (Somali), today attended the formal signing ceremony of a strategic collaboration agreement between the National Identification and Registration Authority (NIRA) and the Somali Banking Union, held in Mogadishu.
The ceremony was formally inaugurated by H.E. Salah Ahmed Jama, Deputy Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia. The event saw the participation of esteemed ministers of the federal government, the Director General of NIRA, prominent members of the Somali Banking Union, and other senior officials.
In his remarks, Minister Mohamed Somali underscored the critical importance of this agreement in facilitating the advancement and operationalization of the National Identification System. “This collaboration will play a vital role in safeguarding and preserving national data, particularly as our Ministry has successfully implemented the Data Protection Act and established the Data Protection Authority. The national data storage facility, which is instrumental for the registration of citizens and the comprehensive management of national data, has now reached a significant milestone in its operational readiness,” stated the Minister.
This partnership is poised to make a substantial contribution to the effective implementation of the National Identification System, thereby enhancing the accessibility of essential services for citizens and markedly improving the efficiency of banking operations throughout the country.
