The Minister of Communications and Technologies of Somalia, Mohamed Adan Moalim Ali, (Somali) participated in the WS20 Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland. During this significant event, Minister Mohamed held a special meeting with Mrs. Doreen Bogdan-Martin, Secretary-General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).
The meeting focused on strengthening the cooperation between Somalia and the ITU, with an emphasis on the development of communication and technology infrastructure in Somalia. Both parties discussed various strategic initiatives to promote digital skills within the country, enhance the ICT sector, and prepare comprehensive laws and procedures for the effective management of Artificial Intelligence (AI).
The Minister highlighted the importance of developing digital skills necessary for the digital labor market. He emphasized the need for providing training to equip individuals with the essential competencies required in today’s technologically advanced world.
Mrs. Bogdan-Martin expressed her commitment to supporting Somalia in its endeavors to modernize its communication and technology sectors. She reiterated the ITU’s readiness to assist Somalia in its digital transformation journey, ensuring that the country’s ICT infrastructure is robust and capable of meeting future demands.
The meeting concluded with a mutual agreement to continue collaborative efforts towards achieving these goals, aiming to foster a more connected and technologically advanced Somalia.
This initiative aligns with Somalia’s vision to harness the potential of digital technologies, thereby fostering economic growth and improving the quality of life for its citizens. The Ministry of Communications and Technology remains dedicated to working closely with international partners like the ITU to achieve these objectives.
