The Ministry of Communications and Technology convened an important consultation meeting on the Horn of Africa Regional Digital Integration Project (EA-RDIP), aimed at strengthening digital connectivity and internet infrastructure in Somalia and across the region.
The meeting was officially opened by the Deputy Minister of Communications and Technology, H.E. Ahmed Diriye, who underscored the importance of establishing clear visibility and advancing the country’s internet infrastructure. He emphasized that the project is already underway and requires close collaboration between the government and telecom operators to achieve tangible outcomes.
The consultation brought together the Director General of the Ministry, the Project Manager, Ministry Advisors, and representatives of Somalia’s telecommunications companies.
Discussions focused on ensuring that both the government and private sector jointly benefit from the project’s first phase, which is scheduled for completion by 2028. Participants agreed on the need for continuous information-sharing with service providers and stakeholders to ensure transparency and alignment of roles.
Telecom operators presented practical recommendations and a unified approach to achieving measurable progress under the project.
In closing, the Director General commended the efforts of the telecommunications companies, particularly their role in expanding internet services, and reaffirmed that their recommendations will be fully taken into account as the project moves forward.
