The Minister of Communications and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia, H.E. Mohamed Adam Moalim (Somali), participated in a high-level panel discussion during the WSIS+20 Forum, held in Geneva, Switzerland, under the theme:
“Accelerating Universal Access to Information and Knowledge in the Digital Age.”
In his remarks, H.E. Minister Mohamed delivered a comprehensive overview of Somalia’s national vision for building an inclusive digital society, anchored in the National ICT Policy, which was approved by the Council of Ministers earlier this year.
“This policy is not merely a political statement — it is a national commitment,” the Minister emphasized.
He highlighted several concrete measures undertaken by the Federal Government of Somalia, including:
•Expanding access to affordable high speed internet;
•Designing targeted digital skills programmes for women and youth;
•Enhancing the delivery of digital public services to marginalized and vulnerable communities.
During the panel, the Minister made a strong appeal to international organizations, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and development partners, to intensify their support for developing countries, ensuring that digital transformation leaves no one behind.
Somalia’s participation in WSIS+20 reaffirms the continued commitment of the Ministry of Communications and Technology and the Federal Government to advancing a fair, inclusive, and opportunity-driven digital transformation one that reflects Somalia’s national vision for equitable growth and meaningful digital integration.
