The 6th Consultative Meeting of the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia and Federal Member States ministries .

Mogadishu, Wednesday, September 18, 2024– The 6th Consultative Meeting* between the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the Federal Government of Somalia (FGS), the Ministries of Communications from the Federal Member States, and the Banadir Regional Administration successfully concluded in Mogadishu. This two-day meeting, held from September 17 to 18, 2024, focused on fostering collaboration and a shared understanding between federal and state-level ministries responsible for communications and technology.

The event, organized by the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the FGS, was officially opened and closed by the Federal Minister of Communications and Technology, H.E. Mohamed Aadan Maalim Cali (Soomaali). The primary objective of the meeting was to facilitate cooperation between the Ministries of Communications at both the federal and state levels, ensuring alignment on key policies, projects, and strategies.

Prominent attendees included H.E. Ahmed Diiriye, State Minister of the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the FGS; H.E. Hussein Ahmed Culusoow, Deputy Minister of Communications and Technology of the FGS; H.E. Muxyadiin Sheekh C/llaahi Cismaan (Sunni), Minister of Communications and Technology of Galmudug; H.E. Mascuud Cabdullaahi Axmed, Minister of Communications and Technology of Jubaland; H.E. Cabdullaahi Shiikh Daahir, Minister of Communications and Technology of South West State; H.E. Maxamuud Sheekh Cali Salaad, Minister of Communications and Technology of HirShabelle; Mr. Cabdi’asiis Duwane Isaaq, Director General of the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the FGS; Mr. Yusuf Alasow, Director of Technology and Communications for Banadir Regional Administration, and other key advisors, directors, and officials from both the federal and state communications ministries.

Following extensive discussions, several important resolutions were reached, highlighting the shared commitment to advancing the communications and technology sectors in Somalia:

1. Acknowledgment of Continued Collaboration*: The Federal Member States’ ministries expressed their appreciation to the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the FGS for organizing the consultative meeting. They emphasized the importance of making such gatherings a regular occurrence to ensure ongoing cooperation and dialogue between all relevant stakeholders.

2. Promotion of the Somali Language Technology Terminology*: The Federal Member States applauded the efforts of the Ministry of Communications and Technology of the FGS for organizing the Somali Language Technology Terminology Conference. This initiative aims to develop appropriate Somali-language terms for use in the rapidly evolving technology sector, ensuring that the language keeps pace with technological advancements.

3. Enhanced Federal-State Coordination*: The federal and state ministries agreed to enhance their coordination and cooperation in all matters related to telecommunications and technology. They committed to accelerating the implementation of critical tasks and projects that are essential to the sector’s growth and development.

4. Joint Implementation of Key Projects: Both the federal and state ministries reaffirmed their commitment to working together on national development projects, including the **EA-RDIP project*, which is progressing positively. The ministries recognized the need for sustained collaboration to ensure the success of these initiatives.

5. Harmonization of Legal and Strategic Frameworks*: A mutual agreement was reached to align the relevant laws, policies, and strategies governing telecommunications and technology across federal and state levels. This harmonization will ensure a more cohesive approach to sectoral governance and regulation.

6. Advancements in Debt Relief and Postal Services*: The Federal Member States welcomed the progress made in ongoing debt relief efforts and the revitalization of the country’s postal services. These initiatives were acknowledged as critical steps towards Somalia’s economic recovery and future growth.

7. Standardization of Ministry Titles*: In order to promote consistency and coherence, it was agreed that the titles of the Ministries of Communications at both the federal and state levels would be standardized. This measure will ensure clarity and uniformity in governmental structures across the country.

The meeting concluded with a strong sense of unity and shared purpose, with all parties expressing their commitment to working closely together in advancing Somalia’s communications and technology sectors. The *6th Consultative Meeting* was deemed a success, setting a positive precedent for future cooperation and collaborative initiatives in the sector.
