Visit to Huawei Headquarters:

Beijing, Friday, September 7, 2024 —
The President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, H.E. Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, visited the headquarters of the global technology company Huawei in China. He was accompanied by the Minister of Communication and Technology, Hon. Mohamed Adam Moalim Ali (Somali), as part of the President’s official delegation.

Also accompanying the President were the Minister of Energy and Water, Hon. Abdullahi Bidhaan Warsame; the Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, Hon. Ahmed Hassan Aden; the State Minister at the Presidency, Hon. Abshir Mohamed Ahmed (Abshir Bukhaari); Somalia’s Ambassador to China, H.E. Awale Ali Kullane; and the Director General of the Presidency, Mr. Abdihakim Mohamed Yusuf, along with other senior officials.

During the visit, the Minister of Communication and Technology, Hon. Mohamed Somali, discussed the current investment opportunities in Somalia with Huawei’s leadership. He highlighted the country’s recent advancements in the telecommunications and technology sectors and urged Huawei to consider establishing a branch in Somalia, emphasizing that Somali telecommunication companies already use Huawei’s equipment.

In his remarks, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud encouraged Huawei’s executives to become a key player in Somalia’s investment landscape, noting that the country’s Investment Law has now been streamlined to facilitate foreign investment.
